The Embassy of Ecuador in the United States announces that the US Health Service of Plant and Animal Inspection (APHIS) has completed the process that will allow Ecuador’s fresh peppers entry to US markets on November 23, 2015.

Ecuadorian fresh peppers could enter the US market after meeting the requirements of the US healthcare legislation, including obtaining the appropriate health certifications required by the corresponding authorities in Ecuador, as well as meeting adequate regulations for the prevention and identification of pests.

This product is eligible for the US Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), which will allow this product to enter the US market duty free. During the last three years, the United States has imported an average of $285 million of fresh and chilled peppers from around the world.

Other Ecuadorian products such, as cape gooseberry, dragon fruit, blackberry raspberry, mango, avocado, tomato, passion fruit, papaya, and grape, are expected to enter the US market under the same process.

Some of these Ecuadorian exports are crucial for the development of Ecuador’s popular and solidarity economy. National authorities have enacted sustained efforts to facilitate the entry of these exports to the US market.
